Editor, As a member of two GPSA regent selection committees - in 2002 and 2004 - I take great umbrage at the content of Diane Albert's letter in Monday's Daily Lobo for this simple fact: The selection committee never selected Rosalyn Nguyen as one of the candidates whose name was forwarded to former UNM President Louis Caldera for consideration.
Academic excellence is one way to get scholarships. This semester, entering a raffle is another. Fall tuition is one of seven prizes being offered in the Tuition Scholarship Raffle. This is the first time a tuition raffle will take place at UNM, said Quonya Huff, co-coordinator of the raffle. The winning tickets will be drawn at Johnson Field on April 21. The raffle is sponsored by Trailblazers, an organization in the Alumni Association. Any full-time student with a 2.0 GPA or better can participate. One ticket is $3, and four tickets are $10.

Darnell rightfully objected to former Vice President Al Gore's massive personal energy bill and lack of frugality. However, his claim that Gore does not participate in a voluntary program that uses renewable rather than carbon-based energy is an outright lie.
Editor, The SUB should not be used as a concert hall. On Friday, a co-worker and I were enjoying a nice lunch in the SUB when our conversation was muted by the deafening sound of a marching band. Thankfully, the band played for only about five minutes. But during those five minutes, I noticed people having to yell at the food vendors just to have their orders heard.
Editor, I am writing to say thank you to an exceptional person, Rosalyn Nguyen, for her service to UNM and to the state of New Mexico during her two-year tenure as student regent. The Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation announced a $1.6 million pledge to UNM Hospital on Friday to build an inpatient children's wing and surgical suite in the Bill and Barbara Richardson Pavilion. The donation demonstrates commitment to patients and their families, said Don Blanton, president of the foundation's board of directors. "It's our outward show of support for them," he said. "A lot of the people we deal with are below the poverty level."
