Letter: Right not to be offended compromises all rights

Of all the rights that we as citizens of the United States have, the right not to be offended is not among them. This is for good reason - just about everything offends someone in some fashion. Such a right would restrict every other right we have.

Letter: Traffic signs to Popejoy confusing, ineffective

Never having seen or read your paper, I have no way of knowing whether you have any concern in printing this type of public interest letter. I am sending you this letter in the hope that you can publish it and help your readers get an idea of what some people think about the conduct of UNM's campus, and some of the slip-shod ways public events are being handled.

Utah overtakes Boston 57-54

Boston College executed its game plan to stop All-American Kim Smith perfectly. Just for good measure, the Eagles also shut down last year's co-Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, Shona Thorburn, in their Sweet 16 game against the University of Utah at The Pit on Saturday.

Letter: Misused buzzwords not enlightening anybody

Joachim Oberst should be ashamed at his attempt to "enlighten" us regarding freedom of speech with obscure references to pornography critics and tossing around overused and often misunderstood buzzwords such as fascism and anti-Semitism.

Jeer, cheer for Sweet 16

The UNM women's basketball team is out of the NCAA Tournament and the men's team said goodbye a few weeks back, but that doesn't mean Albuquerque will be short on basketball this weekend.

Letter: Oberst just as guilty of double standards as paper

I would like to enlighten Joachim Oberst on the principles of free speech as well as the idea of a privately owned and operated media outlet. It seems like he favors state-sanctioned media that reports the party line, or only speech that has been sterilized to nothing.

Forum interviews 2nd counsel finalist

Kirk Miller, a candidate for University counsel, said he enjoys working under the public eye. "Everything is watched. You know when you do something it may very well be on the front page of the paper the next day, or at some point," he said. "That requires you to manage in a particular way. And it's also, quite frankly, a fun place to be because you're at the heart of what people care about."
