Moore back on field after injury

Staff Report UNM running back DonTrell Moore was cleared to begin practice Aug. 8. The All-Mountain West Conference player was recovering from a knee injury he suffered in the Lobos' last game of the 2004 season. He sat out all of spring practice. Moore went down in the first quarter of the Lobos' bowl game against Navy on Dec.

High school track champs join Lobos

Staff Report After a season that saw three Lobos compete at the NCAA Championships, UNM's track and field team just got 29 reasons to expect better things in the future. A recruiting class made up of 16 women and 13 men made the final cut for head coach Matt Henry.

Athletes make school their game

All UNM student athletes finished the spring semester with an overall combined GPA of 3.02. That makes it the sixth-straight semester Lobo athletes had a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Leading the way for women's teams was the golf team with a 3.79 GPA.

Two train for Moore's place

by Kristie Boudwin Daily Lobo DonTrell Moore might be coming back, but Rodney Ferguson and Adrian Byrd are already here. With Moore rehabilitating an injured knee, Ferguson and Byrd assume the running back duties for the UNM football team. Quarterback Kole McKamey said he is confident he can rely on other tailbacks if Moore does not return as healthy as anticipated.

Medical all-clear needed to play

At last year's Dec. 30 Emerald Bowl against Navy, Moore suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that required him to have surgery during the offseason.

Former goalkeeper gets big league beginning

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo He might not have all the amenities that usually come with a professional contract, but Andrew Weber said he's just fine with that. For now, at least. The ex-goalkeeper for the UNM men's soccer team signed a contract with D.C. United of Major League Soccer on June 3.

UPDATED:Basketball player investigated for sexual assualt allegations

Staff Report Josh Jenkins has been suspended indefinitely from the UNM men's basketball team, head coach Ritchie McKay said in a statement issued July 27. Jenkins played one season at New Mexico State before transferring after the 2005 spring semester to UNM and joining the Lobos as a walk-on.

UNM swim team adds local flair

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo The UNM swimming and diving team has 14 recruits, seven of whom are from Albuquerque. First-year head coach Tracy Ljone said the influx of home-grown talent wasn't something she was expecting. "It was kind of some nice surprises," she said.

Staff Report The UNM football team was picked to finish second this year in the Mountain West Conference by media members on Tuesday. Lobo running back DonTrell Moore was chosen as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Moore is a two-time All-MWC selection.

Lacrosse sticks don't break players' bones

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo No, really, the lacrosse sticks don't hurt when they come smashing down on a forearm. At least, that's what James Simermeyer, UNM lacrosse president, said. "A lot of people view it as a real violent sport, but if you talk to the players it's not as violent as it appears to be, especially with the technology now," he said.

Kansas player to join Lobos

Staff Report Two months after being stabbed in a bar fight, J.R. Giddens signed a scholarship grant-in-aid on Monday to transfer to the UNM men's basketball program. Giddens left the Kansas University basketball team after a May 19 fight at the Moon Bar in Lawrence, Kan.

Linebacker to lead team
